I Am Back Baby
Friends, romans, countrymen, lend me your ears. It’s been a while, and in case you aren’t aware, I’m TheITFirefly. When I started this blog about a year ago, I wanted to provide a place that would help teach people learning technology concepts that I’ve learned in my major, at a level that they could understand.
As it turns out, that is far harder than I could ever believe. Not only did I have to develop my technical writing skills, but I needed to be able to put myself back in the mindset of a beginner. I wanted to post regularly, but in this regard I have failed. So it’s time to do a postmortem to avoid this again. So what happened?
- Lack of motivation: to be honest, I mostly saw this as a potential resume builder. Problem is my resume is kind of stacked. So for selfish reasons I lacked the motivation to keep making posts.
- Lack of content: for all of my knowledge, a lot of my knowledge is very narrowly constrained. To be beginner friendly I’d have to learn how to simplify it all down.
- Professionalism: the way I started my blog, I made it seem very slick, very organized, very calculated and professional. Almost as if a whole team could be behind the decisions about what gets posted.
So what am I going to do going forward? The answer is simple: write about the things I am passionate about. If I get a following, great. If not, this blog will remain as an archive of my journeying through the technology space. I’m also going to stop worrying about keeping everything all neatly organized. Technology is messy, and often consists of workarounds, patches, and terrible organization that leads to massive overlap. So maybe it’s okay if my tech blog does the same.
To all of my readers, best of luck. I’m rooting for you just like I’m rooting for me. You can do hard things. Signing off, TheITFirefly
